BAAF Post qualification (PQ) courses

Sheffield Hallam University and the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) have collaborated to create this General Social Care Council Specialist level Post Qualifying (PQ) award.

Who is this for?

This course aims to meet the needs of qualified professionals working with vulnerable children, young people, their families and carers. The course addresses a broad area of child care, but also provides the opportunity to focus on child and family placement issues. Diploma qualified social workers who successfully complete the course will gain a full honours degree. The course is also suitable for a range of other professionals working with children and young people. Modules can be accessed on an individual basis.

How is it taught?

This is an 18 month part-time course based in Sheffield and at BAAF training centres across England. We have designed this course so that as little time as possible is spent away from your workplace.

The course will be delivered by tutors from Sheffield Hallam University and BAAF. During the course you will attend five modules at BAAF Centres located throughout the UK. Each module involves two to three days attendance at workshops and tutorials and seminars. A further two modules will be delivered at Sheffield Hallam University, with additional support provided through online tutorials.

What will I study?

You will study areas including consolidation of your professional practice, assessment and decision-making, attachment and communication, supporting substitute care placements, and enabling learning and development. You will also complete a research and dissertation module.

If you have already completed some PQ accredited training, you may be given accreditation towards this course, subject to university approval.

How am I assessed?

There are no exams. Assessment is by a variety of methods and includes observation of your work practice by a registered, experienced social worker.

Fees

Fees for the full 120 credit course are £2880. Modules can be taken individually at a cost of £480 for each 20 credit module.

Dates

There will be courses run in Bristol. For modules and dates download this pdf.
